ONE OF MY FIRST PAIR OF NIKE AIR SHOES WAS THE AIR TRAINER BACK IN THE SIXTH GRADE. WORN EXTENSIVELY BY JOHN McENROE & ANDRE LONG-BLONDE-HAIR AGASSI. WHICH IS IRONIC CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT THESE WERE NOT SPECIFICALLY TENNIS SHOES BUT CROSS TRAINING SHOES. IT WAS ABOUT THAT PERIOD THAT NIKE STARTED PROMOTING "CROSS TRAINING", WHICH WAS A FORM OF EXERCISE/TRAINING THAT INVOLVED MULTIPLE DISCIPLINES OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. BASICALLY, ONE SHOE THAT YOU COULD USE FOR RUNNING, LIFTING WEIGHTS, BASKETBALL, TENNIS, AEROBICS, ETC. I KNOW IT'S HARD TO IMAGINE TODAY THAT THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING TO POINT OUT. CREDIT NIKE FOR COMING UP WITH THE CONCEPT. THE AD CAMPAIGN USED TO SHOW A DUMBELL, BASKETBALL, JUMP ROPE, TENNIS BALL, THINGS LIKE THAT. THE AIR TRAINER TW USED TO HAVE A SIMILIAR AD WITH VARIOUS ITEMS LIKE THAT PLUS A WASHING MACHINE BECAUSE THAT PARTICULAR MODEL COULD BE TOSSED INTO A MACHINE FOR CLEANING.
THE OG COLORWAY WAS BLACK/GRAY/WHITE/GREEN OR RED. WHEN I PICKED UP THIS VERSION SHOWN, UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS NOT AS COMFORTABLE AS THE OLDER OG ONES FOR SOME REASON. THE CRACKED LIGHT GREY LEATHER WAS NOT AS SOFT & SUPPLE AS THE OG GRAY & WHITE LEATHER. NOR WAS THE CUSHIONING AS SOFT.
