#176 SCARPA HELIX
OK, IT'S BEEN AWHILE. ANYWAYS, I ORIGINALLY PICKED UP A PAIR OF EVOLV VTR SHOES WHICH ARE ONE OF THE MOST COMMON & POPULAR CLIMBING SHOES. AFTER A COUPLE OF USES, I ENDED UP RETURNING THEM & CHANGING TO THESE. THE SALESPERSON ORIGINALLY TOLD ME THAT EVOLV DIDN'T HAVE GOOD SOLES ON THEIR SHOES & WITHOUT TELLING ME DIRECTLY, GAVE ME THE IMPRESSION THAT THE COMPANY JUST HAD A GREAT ROSTER OF SPONSORED CLIMBERS BUT IN FACT MADE OK SHOES. I ENDED UP GOING WITH EVOLV ANYWAYS BECAUSE THEY LOOKED COOL, BUT AFTER WEARING THE VTRs A FEW TIMES, THE FIT WASN'T ALL THAT GREAT & THE SOLES DID SUCK AS I SLIPPED A COUPLE OF TIMES. SPOKE TO SOME OTHER GUY WHO HAD THE VTRs BECAUSE I SAW HIM SLIPPING TOO & HE TOLD ME HE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. THOUGHT MAYBE IT HAD TO BE BROKEN IN, BUT HE HAD HIS WAY LONGER THAN I DID. THE SCARPA HELIX IS A DEFINITE IMPROVEMENT IN ALMOST EVERY WAY EXCEPT APPEARANCE. BUT I GUESS WHEN YOU'RE UP AGAINST A ROCK FACE, FUNCTION IS WHAT MATTERS. I INITIALLY WANTED THE REFLEX MODEL, BUT REI DOESN'T HAVE THE BEST SELECTION OF THINGS.
