EXTENSOR HALLUCIS BREVIS

Originating from the superior surface of the Calcaneous (medial to the EDB's origin) & inserting into the base of the proximal phalanx of the great toe, the EHB helps to extend the metatarsophalangeal joint of the big toe. Like the EDB, the EHB extends that great big toe that’s pivotal during the push off phase of gait by helping to stabilize & anchor that big toe to the ground while the rest of the foot pushes off of it.
